Access Drilling's Track sawing or Wall Sawing Solutions are used to saw reinforced concrete walls for a variety of applications such as openings for new ventilation ducts, windows, doorways or just to reduce the height of existing walls. They can also be used to cut floors where access for a conventional floor saw is restricted such as stairwells, or where the gradient is too great making it impossible to safely control a floor saw. This Access Drilling solution can be used inside or out.
Our track saw is made up of a number of lightweight parts, for easier handling.
Operationally, the track is secured to the structure which is to be cut, this can be placed with absolute precision so an exact cut can be made.
The saw Head, to which the blade is attached, is secured to the track and then all guards and hydraulic pipes are attached.
The hydraulic power pack, a 3-Phase electric hydraulic pack features integral controls for the saw head and are used 10 Metres away from the work area, therefore any risk to the operator is very low indeed.
Example Projects carried out using the Track saw:-
Height reduction of existing retaining wall
As part of decommissioning and demolition of an redundant sewerage works on the edge of the Peak District National Park we were asked if there was any way of removing the top 1.2 Metres from 100 Metres of retaining wall to reduce it’s “visual impact”, it seemed straight forward! However, the challenge on this job lay in the fact & problem of being next to a river which was not to be contaminated with slurry from the cutting process and also being next to a busy road in a beauty spot no slurry was allowed to break through the face of the wall which could stain any remaining masonary which could be visible once the work was complete.
The solution lay in using our Braun WS12 hydraulic Track saw which has the capacity to carry a 1200mm diameter blade, although for this work a 750mm diameter blade was fitted which was ideal as the wall was 325mm thick and the cutting depth of the blade was 310mm leaving a 15mm barrier to defend the river. The wall was cut into 4 Metre long sections so they could be removed easily and crushed on site, once a section was removed the thickness of the wall was checked for a consistent depth to assure our client & ourselves that nothing would flow into the river.
The work was carried out in accordance with a strict time plan, with our experience and dedication having the work completed in 5 days - well ahead of schedule without any contamination to the river or the remaining wall. Result!
Forming Doorways
As part of an office redevelopment in Manchester city centre, we were required to remove a number of single and double doorways, throughout the building.
These had to be removed in manageable pieces and then placed into a skip on the ground floor. The client brief also stiplutated that there couldn't be ANY overcutting of the opening as it could weaken the structure. Our solution so as to eliminate this was a 150mm diameter hole drilled at each end of where each cut was to be made (the blade then runs into the hole as opposed to the remaining structure)
All the work was carried out in accordance with a tightly planned schedule and was completed on time.
